The European Commission (EC) is “closely following” suggestions for introducing sovereign bond-backed securities to Europe, the body’s vice-president told an audience in Brussels on May 31.

Several official bodies were working on the concept, notably including the European Systemic Risk Board, said Valdis Dombrovskis, who leads the EC’s capital markets union project.
