ECB president repeats call for European deposit insurance scheme

The European Union can only increase its economic growth by “action at the member state level”, the president of the European Central Bank told members of the Netherlands parliament.

The contribution made by monetary policy on its own would not be sufficient, Mario Draghi said in a speech in the lower house of the parliament on May 10. “Ambitious, country-specific, structural reforms are needed to raise productivity, make economies more resilient and address persistent fragilities,” Mario
