Researchers say global banking has not become more fragmented
The global banking system is not becoming more fragmented, but is shifting towards a "more regional focus", according to a working paper published by the Netherlands Bank today.
In The impact of the global financial crisis on banking globalization, Stijn Claessens and Neeltje van Horen find that cross-border bank lending has fallen sharply since the crisis, but there has only been "limited retrenchment" in foreign bank presence.
