RBNZ’s Wheeler highlights the many unknowns of financial linkages
Governor encourages further research into links
Graeme Wheeler, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) governor, yesterday emphasised the extent to which exchange rate movements and the interlinkages between countries remain poorly understood.
Speaking at a Bank for International Settlements conference on cross-border financial linkages in Wellington, the RBNZ governor warned the exchange rate can be "the primary transmission channel" for monetary policy, but said the effect is often stronger than expected.
