New Riksbank data finds household debt higher than previously thought
Study by the bank puts average debt ratio for individuals with mortgages at 370%
New data collected by the Sveriges Riksbank shows household debt to disposable income is higher in Sweden than previously thought, according to a study by the central bank's financial stability department.
How indebted are Swedish households?, by Jakob Winstrand and Dilan Ölcer, finds that low and middle-income earners in particular are highly indebted in relation to their incomes. Moreover, four out of 10 borrowers are not reducing their debts, while those that are, are doing so "very slowly".
