The International Monetary Fund (IMF) last night announced a financial rescue package worth up to $17 billion for Ukraine after reaching agreement on "a bold economic programme to secure macroeconomic and financial stability", according to IMF managing director Christine Lagarde.

The deal will see the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) initially adopt a money-based monetary framework but, with technical assistance from the fund, the central bank is aiming to move to inflation targeting by mid-2015.
