Central Bank of Ireland paper weighs crisis impact on SME financing

A research technical paper, published by the Central Bank of Ireland in July, evaluates the effect of economic, financial and debt crises on the ability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to raise funding.

The authors, Sarah Holton, Martina Lawless and Fergal McCann, analyse data from a European Central Bank survey on SME financing between 2009 and 2010, comparing this data with a range of financial and economic indicators. The paper finds that a "debt overhang" affects both credit
