Charles Goodhart is professor emeritus of banking and finance at the London School of Economics (LSE). He served on the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee from June 1997 to May 2000. Before joining the LSE in 1985, he worked at the Bank of England for 17 years as a monetary adviser, becoming Chief Adviser in 1980.
