Hungary discovers further risks to economy

A Financial Stability Report published by the National Bank of Hungary last Wednesday warned that high government debt and the large amount of household sector foreign currency debt meant the Hungarian economy remained vulnerable to shocks.

According to the report, subdued credit supply and weak loan demand had both contributed to the recent contraction in bank lending to the corporate sector.

The report identified two main factors that make it difficult for borrowers to access credit
