Sri Lanka must be more competitive, central bank argues

Warns country missed “many” opportunities to become developed nation

Sri Lanka is in “dire need” of policies aimed at improving its competitiveness, the country’s central bank warned in its latest annual report, published on April 26. These policies are necessary for Sri Lanka to become “an upper-middle income economy without a considerable delay”, it said.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka called for a “consistent national policy towards development”, better quality infrastructure “within and outside the Western Province”, and reforms in the country’s legal and tax
