Burundi central bank updates banknotes
New notes will be higher quality and harder to counterfeit, central bank says
The Bank of Burundi is issuing new banknotes in a bid to increase the security and durability of the currency, said the governor.
Jean Ciza said in a statement on May 2 that the Burundian franc would see new 500, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 notes. The new banknotes are made of high-durability paper and feature a new security thread and window. An image in the window makes rapid movements when the bill is tilted.
