IMF: Indian demonetisation to have ‘limited impact’ on Nepal

Some households have been affected, IMF says, but holdings of Indian rupee were “small”

The International Monetary Fund has said the decision taken by India's government to withdraw high-denomination banknotes will have a "limited impact" on the Nepalese economy.

In a statement published on January 23 at the conclusion of the nation's Article IV consultation, IMF mission chief Geert Almekinders said bank holdings of Indian rupees were "small", but some households who do hold such notes will have seen their purchasing power "affected".
