Bundesbank to begin investing in renminbi

Executive board member says bank is considering investing in other foreign currencies

The Deutsche Bundesbank will begin investing in Chinese renminbi, it confirms in an official statement today (January 15). It is also considering investing in other foreign currencies.

The German central bank says its executive board decided to invest in the currency in the summer of 2017, according to a statement sent to Central Banking: “Once the requisite organisational and technical preparations have been completed, the investment in renminbi will be effected.”
