BoE introduces new counterfeit initiative for ‘front line of defence’
New checking scheme will employ “targeted training” for cash handlers
The Bank of England has launched a new initiative for cash handlers to reduce the number of counterfeit banknotes passed through the system.
Launched on October 10, the Banknote Checking Scheme will look to promote banknote checks at the point of sale through “targeted” training.
“Retailers and other businesses are the front line of defence against counterfeiting,” chief cashier Victoria Cleland said on the launch of the scheme.
Counterfeit banknotes are only successfully passed through
