Brief History

Founded on 21 August 1925 under Law Decree N°. 486, 1925. Began operations on 11 January 1926. Now operates under Constitutional Organic Law of the Central Bank of Chile, Article One Law N°. 18,840, October 1989. A new statute, guaranteeing independence of the central bank, came into effect in December 1989. It has the sole right of note and coin issue.
