Glenn Stevens sees limits to central bank communication

Central banks cannot communicate its response to ‘all possible future states of the world’

There is a limit to how much central banks can communicate about their future policy actions, Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) governor Glenn Stevens said today (June 30) - while, in any case, many market participants and journalists are only interested in a "simple story".

Addressing the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum in London, Stevens argued "words matter as much as actions" but stressed a central bank "cannot realistically state how it will respond to all possible future
