FCA’s Wheatley highlights complexity of banking cultural reform
Conduct watchdog chief does not doubt banks' ambition to change
Martin Wheatley, head of the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), said on May 28 that the ambition of bank CEOs to reform the culture of their institutions "is not in doubt", emphasising the job was highly complex.
Speaking at a ResPublica Vocational Banking panel session in London, Wheatley came to the defence of the bankers punished so frequently by his organisation in recent years. "There's an obvious commercial imperative for industry leaders to address cultural issues," he said.
