Bank of Portugal's Varela calls for ‘impeccable' banking ethics
António Varela and Hélder Rosalino took office this week at the central bank
António Varela, now the Bank of Portugal board member responsible for prudential supervision, has called for the banking system to act "according with impeccable ethical principles."
In his inaugural speech on Wednesday, the new board member argued for a "demanding diagnostic of the capabilities of each institution" in the banking system, and for the banks to "implement with vigour the necessary measures".
