Danish governor repeats call to join banking union
Lars Rohde urges authorities to opt-in to new financial architecture
National Bank of Denmark governor Lars Rohde has called for the country to join the European banking union, insisting it would be in Denmark's "best interests" to participate in the new architecture designed to safeguard financial stability in the EU.
Non-eurozone members may join the banking union – consisting of a single supervisory mechanism (SSM) and single resolution mechanism – and Demark is weighing up its options. Other countries, including the UK and Sweden, seem set against the idea.
