Bank of Spain's Linde touts comeback of local banks

Spanish banks' solvency position has improved in 2013, with average core capital levels predicted at 10.5% in December, one percentage point higher than a year ago, Bank of Spain governor Luis Linde said in a speech in Madrid on Monday, adding the country's lenders would face the European Central Bank's (ECB) ‘asset quality review' in November 2014 "from a sound position".

Linde heralded the continued restructuring and recapitalisation of the banking system as an "essential condition… for credit
