Schapiro seeks tighter reins on hedge-funds

Advisers to hedge funds and other private funds should be registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), said Mary Schapiro, its chairman.

Schapiro said the commission was also seeking access to information that would enable it to create a comprehensive database to monitor for systemic risk and investor protection purposes. Schapiro said the commission was cooperating with the UK Financial Services Authority to share hedge-funds related data as roughly 80% of hedge-fund assets
