Atlanta’s Lockhart: don’t politicise the Fed

Dennis Lockhart, the president of the Atlanta Federal Reserve, said in a speech on Monday that he was concerned about measures that would have the effect of politicising the Fed and especially decision making of monetary policy.

Lockhart said monetary policy should not be influenced by short-term political pressures. He said he was concerned that the "audit the Fed" amendments that were passed in the House and introduced in the Senate could compromise the independence that enabled the Fed
