Phil Fed's Santomero on the economic outlook

In the speech 'Economic Outlook' given on 15 January, Anthony Santomero of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said interest rates can remain low for now, but when the economy nears full employment the Federal Reserve will need to start raising rates.

Santomero said the Fed will have to consider a policy adjustment "as we see signs that the economy is on a trajectory to achieve full employment or potential output, but before inflation actually accelerates."
