Buba's Weber: no surprise states keen on euro

It is no wonder that many of those in small boats are seeking to dock in the large ship European economic and monetary union (EMU), said Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank.

He said that the value of monetary union had never been greater than during the financial crisis. However, he also stressed that it was never more evident than now that full compliance with the convergence criteria of the Maastricht Treaty was absolutely indispensable with respect to any EMU enlargement.
