ECB's Issing says EMU needs political support

European Central Bank Chief Economist Otmar Issing said steady political support from all euro zone members will be necessary to guarantee the success of a single monetary policy for the area.

Speaking late Thursday at a European Monetary Union forum, Issing also repeated his view that EMU can thrive even though the region does not yet have a definitive form of political union, adding that he is convinced that political integration will deepen over time.

Issing said that "for 'one size to fit all'
