EU’s Barnier: paradigm shift in regulating OTC derivatives

Michel Barnier, the European Commissioner for internal market regulation, calls in an article published in the Banque de France's July 2010 Financial Stability Review for new light to be shed on the way financial derivatives markets are regulated.

Barnier says that a "paradigm shift" needs to take place, away from the traditional view of light-handed regulation, by allowing markets to price risks attached to financial derivatives properly. "We now need to strengthen the governance and regulation
