Chile rate cuts compensate for commercial charges

A new paper from the Central Bank of Chile examines the evolution of consumption and commercial lending rates to identifying the main determinants of their movements.

The analysis aims to distinguish effects on commercial rates related to the monetary policy rate from those due to higher risk through counterfactual simulations around relevant variables. The research shows that monetary-policy rate cuts have compensated for increases in lending rates caused by higher uncertainty, both domestic
