Labour markets matter for ECB policy

Disturbances in the wage-bargaining process are a significant contributor to inflation and output fluctuations in euro-area, a paper from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve finds.

The authors conclude that the European Central Bank's practice of putting considerable effort into monitoring euro-area wage dynamics while viewing other labour market information as less important for its monetary policy is justified.
