SWF growth necessitates political action

Governments must formulate policy on sovereign wealth funds because the amount of state assets under management is likely to shoot up in coming years.

State assets under sovereign wealth fund management could grow to as much as €5 trillion by 2012, and to €10 trillion by 2017. The funds are already worth $3 trillion, double the value of the hedge fund industry, which regulators are also looking to target.
