Comment: The Old Lady's new deputy

The Bank of England's new deputy governor for financial stability, Sir John Gieve, appeared yesterday before the Treasury Committee of the House of Commons for his appointment hearing.

COMMENT BY CENTRALBANKNEWS

In the course of a wide ranging question and answer session, he had to field a number of questions over the perception held in some quarters that the Treasury may be tightening its grip on the central bank.

Gieve, whose career at the Treasury spanned more than 20 years, was asked whether
