Side effects for ECB transparency

This article from the Financial Times, published Monday 11 December, says that a mixture of good luck and good judgment has made this a good year for the ECB.

"Trichet's communication strategy has reached a level of comical transparency: a mention of 'vigilance' signals a rise in the following month, while 'monitoring closely' means it will happen two or three months hence," the article says.

Although such signposting does have its merits, the article says pre-announcing interest rate decisions
