Letter published in the Financial Times

LETTER - The Financial Times on Tuesday published a letter 'Indices are still higher than before Greenspan's prescient speech'.

Sir, Back in December 1996, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan asked of US stock prices "how do we know when irrational exuberance has unduly escalated asset values?"

This caused much comment amongst analysts, but barely a hiccup in the US bull market. The Nasdaq subsequently rose nearly sixfold, while the more sober Standard & Poor's 500 doubled before topping out
