Bank of England MPC still split 7-2 on rates

Fifth consecutive month with MPC divided on Bank Rate

The Bank of England's monetary policy committee (MPC) was divided over whether or not to raise interest rates for the fifth consecutive month in December, with two of the nine members voting for a 25-basis point increase, minutes from the meeting show.

Both Ian McCafferty and Martin Weale voted to increase the Bank Rate to 0.75%, despite annual CPI inflation falling to 1% in November and concerns from the MPC that it will drift lower in the coming months.
