RBA reports to parliament on SME lending

A Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) report on business lending, released on Tuesday, showed that lending to small businesses had increased slightly during 2009 and 2010 after growing steadily over the previous decade.

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services Inquiry into Access for Small and Medium Business to Finance said the slowdown reflected both reduced demand from businesses and a general tightening in banks' lending standards.
