The Bank Negara Malaysia said consumer price inflation rose moderately in August in its Monetary and Financial Developments report for August, released on 30 September. The central bank said this was largely the result of price increases in food and non-alcoholic beverages and transport.

The central bank said headline inflation, as measured by the consumer price index, increased by 2.1% on an annual basis. It said the increase in food prices was primarily due to a rise in the prices of sugar
