Draghi: eurozone ‘bad bank’ would not be ‘panacea’ for NPLs

ECB president also rejects criticisms made by US president’s trade adviser

A European-level 'bad bank' would not necessarily be a complete solution to the eurozone's non-performing loans (NPLs), Mario Draghi told members of the European Parliament (MEPs) today (February 6).

Asked whether this might be a solution to high NPL levels, the European Central Bank (ECB) president argued bad banks were "not really [a] panacea" for NPLs. European Banking Authority chairman Andrea Enria suggested a pan-eurozone bad bank should take over NPLs, in a speech given on January 30.
