Draghi says ‘substantial’ accommodation still necessary for eurozone

ECB sets out new criteria for asset purchases

The governing council of the European Central Bank held its policy rates steady at its latest meeting, while stressing that monetary policy will need to remain accommodative, despite recent rises in headline inflation.

A "very substantial degree of monetary accommodation is needed" for inflationary pressures in the eurozone to "support headline inflation in the medium term", ECB president Mario Draghi said at the ECB's press conference in Frankfurt today (January 19).
