Sri Lankan government to restructure central bank
Central bank to be restructured in 2017, although disagreements between the finance minister and governor remain
The government of Sri Lanka has announced its intention to restructure the central bank, although the finance minister and central bank governor disagree on many details.
In a January 3 speech outlining the central bank's road map for 2017, governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy acknowledged the government's plans and "very much welcome[d] a constructive restructuring process".
Coomaraswamy called for an "upgrade" to the Monetary Law and Banking acts to give the central bank "greater powers" over
