Norway unveils final banknote designs

Banknote designs eschew traditional inclusion of portraits

Norges Bank unveiled the final designs of its new banknote series today (November 22), opting for the first time to issue notes that will not feature portraits of famous Norwegians.

Instead, the new notes will display a different nautical image on each denomination, ranging from a Viking longship to a lighthouse to breaking waves. The opposite side shows a "modern, pixellated pattern" designed to represent the Beaufort scale of wind strength.
