The Bank of Mexico hiked its policy rate on November 17 in an effort to soften the blow of events in the US on inflation and the exchange rate.

The 50 basis point hike took the overnight rate to 5.25%, but did little to restore the strength of the peso, which weakened marginally against the dollar after the decision was announced. The Mexican currency remains nearly 11% below its level before Donald Trump's election victory.
