FOMC members disagree over need for rate hike
Brainard says labour market slack considerable, while Lockhart disagrees
Two members of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy body have offered differing assessments of whether it should consider raising rates at its meeting next week.
Lael Brainard, a member of the Fed's board of governors, and Dennis Lockhart, president of the Atlanta Fed, offered contrasting readings of current US economic data, particularly on the labour market, in separate speeches on September 12.
Both are members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), which will hold its next monetary
