ECB consults on bad debt guidance

Consultation will last until November 15

The European Central Bank (ECB) launched a public consultation on its proposed guidance for how financial institutions should deal with non-performing loans (NPLs) today (September 12).

The guidance addressed "the main aspects of strategy, governance and operations that are key to successfully resolving NPLs", the ECB says in the document.

The document does not suggest imposing a common definition of NPLs on eurozone banks. But it does say institutions are "strongly encouraged" to adopt the
