Committee leaves key rate at 14.25% at Tombini’s final meeting

In governor Alexandre Tombini's last monetary policy meeting, on June 8, the Central Bank of Brazil's committee held its policy rate at 14.25%, noting there was "no room" for monetary easing.

It cited concerns over inflation, which rose from 9.28% in April to 9.32% in May, well above the bank's target of 4.5%. Some observers still expect it to fall, however.

"Despite the disappointing unchanged inflation reading in May compared to April, inflation is in my view on a downward trend," said Bjarke
