Central bank governor, Alexandre Tombini, retains his post for time being

Alexandre Tombini remains governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, bucking the trend of ministers who resigned following president Rousseff's impeachment today (May 12).

Rousseff has been accused of manipulating government accounts, which she has denied. On April 17, the lower house voted in favour of impeachment proceedings going ahead.

Out of 513 members of the lower house, 367 voted in favour, exceeding by a comfortable margin the two-thirds majority needed to send the case to the Senate
