Research calls on Fed to replace ‘dot plot’

Working paper published by IMF suggests publishing baseline forecast compiled by staff

The Federal Reserve should replace its 'dot plots' with a baseline forecast for the future interest rate path similar to those published by Sveriges Riksbank and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, according to research published by the IMF.

At present the Fed publishes interest rate projections from each Federal Reserve Bank president and member of its Board of Governors on a quarterly basis. The projections are anonymous and depicted on a scatter graph known as the 'dot plot'.
