Eurozone shadow banks increase share of assets to 33%

Expansion has ‘gathered pace’ since 2012 as banks deleverage

The share of the shadow-banking sector in the eurozone financial system has increased from a quarter to a third in the past decade, a trend that has "gathered pace" since mid-2012 as banks deleverage.

These findings are presented in a ‘special article' in the European Central Bank (ECB) report on banking structures published yesterday, which looks to "shed some light" on the composition of the shadow-banking sector.
