Lars Rhode ‘firmly convinced’ by merits of banking union

Danish government still weighing pros and cons of joining banking union

National Bank of Denmark governor Lars Rohde remains "firmly convinced" that Denmark should opt-in to the European banking union, but has acknowledged it will not do so in 2014.

While any European Union member state can apply to join the banking union, CentralBanking.com understands Denmark is one of the more likely candidates.

However, the Danish government is yet to make its mind up, and a spokesperson at the European Central Bank (ECB) confirmed there have been no formal applications to date
