Mark Carney era underway at Bank of England

Bank of England governor Mark Carney

Mark Carney took over as governor of the Bank of England today, with the Canadian walking into Threadneedle Street amid high expectations from the UK public and the government that appointed him.

Carney's appointment was unveiled in November, and much of the focus since then has centred on a speech he delivered suggesting that central banks could replace inflation targeting with a monetary policy framework targeting nominal GDP that would lend greater credibility to their attempts to stimulate
