IMF to pitch in on imbalances, but no clear agreement

The IMF was on Friday drafted by G20 heads of state to aid in the development of "indicative guidelines" against which countries' imbalances will be judged.

G20 leaders acknowledged that external imbalances posed a problem, and said the Mutual Assessment Process (MAP), launched at the group's 2009 summit in Pittsburgh, and for which the IMF provides technical assistance, would have to be enhanced. The MAP reconciles member countries' sometimes conflicting economic policies to produce the best
