New governor for the Bank of Central African States

Lucas Abaga Nchama, a director-general of the Bank of Central African States, took over as its governor last Friday. Nchama has replaced Philibert Andzembe, who was sacked on 19 October last year following allegations that he was involved in the embezzlement on funds from the central bank's Paris branch.

A spokesperson for the central bank confirmed that Nchama had taken up the post, having been appointed by the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa following a meeting in Bangui in
